Today, Presentation House Cultural Society operates Presentation House Theatre, and oversees the maintenance of the Presentation House Arts Centre for all facility users and tenants including Presentation House Gallery and the North Vancouver Museum.
In 2005 PHT began producing The Third Street Theatre Series to become the only professional theatre company on Vancouver’s North Shore. The vision for the series entails a fusion of accessibility, diversity and artistic risk, in order to achieve a season that is appealing and marketable but challenges and educates our audiences about new artistic practices. Our strategy is to produce a mix of Canadian plays alongside well-known plays from the classic and/or contemporary collection.
We envision PHT as a vital component in the cultural life of North Vancouver, particularly in the rapidly expanding Lower Lonsdale area where we are situated. As we continue our transformation into a fully professional performing arts venue that produces and presents a full season of theatre, dance and music, we are also committed to programming that will appeal to the diverse communities that inhabit the North Shore.
Presentation House Theatre plays a unique role in the North Vancouver Arts Community in several ways. We are the only professional theatre company on the North Shore that provides consistently high quality programming to appeal to diverse cultural communities. We also create professional opportunities for local artists and engage in social outreach to support local groups with ticket donations, free rehearsal & performance space, new play development, mentorships and producing partnerships. Additionally, we provide very affordable and accessible rental facilities for community theatre groups, workshops, dance classes, etc. We also provide many volunteer opportunities to local residents by offering free memberships and admission to shows in exchange for ushering duties.
