In July 2011 Presentation House Theatre was pleased to present its first Summer Youth Theatre Intensive with James Fagan Tait and Patty Allan.

Over a week students worked with professional theatre mentors on Script writing; playbuilding; creative initiation and sharing of ideas, voice work, movement skills, dance work, singing, incorporation of individual special skills and talents, relationship work, character development, ensemble (team) work, committment and dedication, and participation in a final performance.

Here’s what the students who attended and their parents had to say:

I wanted to send along huge compliments for the Summer Intensive, both to PHT for providing the community with this wonderfully opportunity and to Patti Allan for the miracles she worked in a mere 15 hours! I sponsored a young 12-year -old and he was completely in love with his week. (I did not see Jimmy’s work but heard it was incredible as well.) I can’t say enough about how important I think this sort of opportunity is to this age group, for how it builds confidence and team spirit and how it fuels the imagination.”

I had a great experience and enjoyed myself tremendously. Sadly our short time together is now over but memories are what count most. I feel I gained some of the experience I might need to pursue professional theatre. I hope to see everyone again soon.

I can only speak for my granddaughters but they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I think their first impression was they would be given a script and told to memorize. Instead they were involved in the development of the script, were able to display their own skills and abilities and expand their imaginations in the final result. The final performance was great! All the students displayed excitement and pleasure with their work.
