Med’Cine is a two-part performance of Contemporary dance works by Vancouver-based O.Dela Arts, including Gateways, an ensemble work that brings together artists from Canada and New Zealand, and Rematriate, a solo work conceived and performed by Olivia C. Davies.
Both works centre around research undertaken by Olivia to articulate in physical embodiment the cultural teachings encoded in stories shared with her by matriarchs. Gateways is an ensemble work that explores how we open and close the creative spaces of our bodies, how we choose to follow heart-centred impulses that guide us, and how we engage our awareness to the multiple layers of space we inhabit.
Rematriate, a solo created and performed by Olivia C. Davies, in response to the patriarchal systems that hold society hostage to continual technological advancement and an ever-growing disconnection to reality.
Conceived and choreographed by Olivia C. Davies in collaboration with dancers Louise Potiki-Bryant, Jasmin Canuel, Kelly McInnes, Rianne Svelnis and composer Michael Red, with additional music by Paddy Free, dramaturges Jo Leslie, Michelle Olson, Natasha Kanapé Fontaine and Lara Kramer, lighting designer Jonathan Kim, visual designer Elysha Poirier, and cultural advisor Gloria May Eshkibok.
