A Presentation House Theatre production
Directed by Heidi Specht
Human history has been primarily written by men about the activities of other men. When uncovering the past through the eyes of a woman how different might that history be? Embedded in the stories of our Mothers, is it possible to discover a fresh social and historical perspective of the 20th century and acquire a deeper understanding of the significance of family dynamics.
Although most of us believe we know our mother’s story – the town she was born in, who her parents were, how she raised her children – how much value do we give her story before we were in it? Was she a war bride, a teacher, a dancer, a truck driver, a home maker or nurse? Was she a First Nation’s daughter, a Japanese immigrant or an Iranian mother escaping political turmoil in her homeland? What was her greatest passion? Did she endlessly wait for a husband who never returned from a war?
The Mothership Stories Society and Presentation House Theatre are working together to bring this innovative theatrical event to North Vancouver to tell the untold history of women from diverse cultural communities in North Vancouver using documentary theatre techniques.
My Mother’s Story: North Vancouver is sponsored by: Cargill
