Pablo Picasso, nearly 60, is detained one morning as he leaves his house. He is taken to an underground bunker, and interrogated by Miss Fischer, an SS Officer in Nazi-occupied Paris. Miss Fischer’s orders are simple: she must determine which of the three works of art in Nazi possession are true Picassos for an art burning that is to take place in the next few weeks. She strikes a deal with the horrified artist, telling him she will save two if he verifies one as an original for her to publicly destroy. Thus begins a cat-and-mouse game of wits.

Clever, sharp dialogue, witty repartee with a hint of flirtation, and a twist ending all make this treatise on art infinitely interesting and enjoyable
