Celebrating people coming together
Monday, March 2, 2026
4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Registration for this FREE event is highly encouraged! Walk-ups are welcome.
Learn, play, create, and feast! Nchem̓ús Day is your chance to dive into Indigenous art, stories, and games.
Nchem̓ús Day is a full day of hands-on experiences, storytelling, and a fun chance to connect with your Indigenous neighbours.
Make your own lightbox in a workshop with Kim Seward and Lisa Lewis, try your luck at Slahal, a traditional Indigenous game led by Dallas Gus, or drop in to watch master carver xwalacktun at work and learn about his craft. Sam Seward will offer stories about lacrosse and reclaiming his traditional weaving practice.
The day will wraps up with a feast, giving everyone a chance to relax, eat, and connect. After the meal, stick around for a special evening program: a reading from a new play by coast salish playwrights, poetry readings by Columpa Bobb and Tania Carter inspired by their mother Lee Maracle, and some laughs with stand-up from Keith Nahanee.
Nchem̓ús means “people coming together,” and this day is all about doing just that, learning, creating, playing, and sharing stories in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Come for an hour or stay all day. We can’t wait to see you there!
