Why Youth Theatre

by Marketing & Publicity Manager

Over the years, Presentation House Theatre has created many wonderful productions for our youngest theatre goers. From Baking Time to Where the Wild Things Are, this work plays a key role in our community by inspiring the artists of tomorrow. Theatre for Young Audiences continues to be a key part of what we do, and we are so happy to share in the joy it brings to families and classrooms on the North Shore.

Check out this clip from Artistic Director Kim Selody talking more about our work in Theatre for Young Audiences.

What to know about Theatre for Young Audiences:

  • It provides an opportunity to explore and express thoughts and feelings, providing caregivers with a framework in which to have these conversations. It can be a mirror for children to see themselves in the characters and reflect on what they see onstage.
  • ‘Playing a part in the wider world’ – Children can engage with their community and start to experience a broader world view. In this way, theatre is a window, helping children look at the world in a safe way.
  • It helps children develop their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. The characters often express problems and encourage children to think about ways on how they would solve them.
  • Theatre is fun for children of all ages, and it’s a great way for families to spend a day together!
