STAND Festival

A Performing Arts Festival for Immigrant and Refugee Artists

Co-presented by Blackout Art Society and Presentation House Theatre

Nov 2 – 8, 2022

(Times vary depending on dates)

The 2nd annual STAND Festival is a live and online celebration by and for immigrant and refugee performing artists. Through a series of free workshops, panel discussions and public showcase performances, STAND supports and amplifies the creations and voices of newcomers to Canada through the arts.

The goal of STAND Festival is to centre and support immigrant and refugee voices while addressing social issues concerning race, class, and gender. The programming offers intriguing performances, knowledge-sharing workshops, panel discussions, and the chance to connect with inspiring newcomer artists who share their stories of survival, courage, failure, and hope.

PHT is honoured to partner in STAND again this year. In 2021, so many immigrant and refugee artists attended workshops to learn everything from how artistic funding works in Canada to professional development of their craft. The showcases were also hugely popular and a wonderful opportunity to share the incredible work of newcomer artists with local audiences.” — Andrea Loewen, PHT Managing Director
